- Understanding Still Water Fly Fishing Techniques
Rick Hafele & John Smeraglio Present Understanding Still Water Fly Fishing Techniques ~September 12th, & 13th, 2009~ Sponsored by DESCHUTES CANYON FLY SHOP Join Rick Hafele & John Smeraglio, instructors in the DVD’s “Fly Fishing Large Western Rivers”, “Nymph Fishing Basics”, and the newly released “Advanced Nymph Fishing”, for a special workshop for anglers of all skill levels on the Deschutes River. Through a combination of slide shows, and stream side instruction, you will learn how to select effective fly patterns, understand trout and insect behavior, and how to effectively fish nymphs, wets, and dry flies. The workshop starts with a Saturday evening dinner hosted by Rick & John, followed by a slide show and an open discussion on some keys to fishing western rivers. Sunday begins with breakfast, and a detailed slide presentation on the life cycles of aquatic insects, learning to recognize them, and matching them with artificial patterns. After lunch, you will spend the afternoon on the Deschutes River learning first hand how to select the correct flies, from the insects you’ve collected, and how to properly present them. Combined, Rick and John have over 50 years experience in fly fishing and instruction. This is an unique opportunity to pick their brains, and answer some of the mysteries of fishing for stubborn trout.
